Artist Kerron John
Born on the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago, Kerron Marcus John is a 20 year old self taught artist. He started on his artistic journey from the age of seven years old, beginning with drawing before eventually branching out into painting. Kerron John has, from 2018, been exhibiting his work at several art galleries all over Trinidad and Tobago, most notably Horizons Art Gallery, as well as at auctions.
At this moment, so early in his career, Kerron John sees himself as an experimental artist not wanting to be bound by labels or boundaries. He instead strives to find himself within art by exploiting all possible ways of expressing himself artistically.
When asked how he would describe himself at this moment and his current work he said “For now, I call myself a contemporary artist, who more focuses on figurative work in a realistic style, putting some elements of abstraction to evoke and focus on the emotional side of human beings.”
Kerron John credits his artist mother with being his first inspiration in the world of art. As he has evolved over the years his influences have grown to include everything from social media to Leonardo Da Vinci to, most recently and notably, artist Henrik Uldalen. When asked to describe Uldalen’s influence on his current work John said this, “When I first came across his page on Instagram I immediately fell in love. I studied how he applied paint, and how he was able to evoke all these emotions from his paintings… Currently, I am experimented with how Henrik painted in my current body of work, and trying to find myself and my style through his work.”
At this moment, Kerron John is painting with acrylics and moving into oils as he feels that acrylics is limiting to himself and his works. He also enjoys experimenting with charcoal, graphite, oil and soft pastels, colour pencils, and most interestingly for him, clay.
Kerron John has his 1st solo show opening in 2020, he is also starting university on a full scholarship at the University of the West Indies in September, 2020. To keep updated on his work and artistic journey, follow the links below.
