Artist Elizabeth Rickert
Elizabeth Rickert is a U.S based self taught artist. She began her art career using ceramic sculpture as a medium before evolving to pastel paints and then oil paints. Rickert comes from a family filled of female artists, each with their own unique style, which was her first inspiration to entertain a career in the arts. Other early inspirations include family camping walks and hikes in nature.
When speaking about “Aquarium 1” and “Aquarium 2”, Rickert said “I have been to koi ponds around the country but something extraordinary happened to me when I went to a koi pond in San Diego, CA. It was a raised pond with a window on the side so I could see the koi from underneath and from the side. This was a new view as I could see them in their beauty and individuality.”
Along with visiting koi ponds, Rickert found great inspiration in visiting and getting lost in water gardens. With the “Buoyant Harmony” painting, the challenge was to not only paint dragon flies, but to also paint the water from the sky’s reflection to the point where one can see rocks under the water. It is clear that Rickert has managed to achieve this while capturing the natural and untameable light that is found throughout this painting.
“Pink Beauty” is part of a series of rose paintings that Rickert explores every spring. She has found a great love in capturing the beauty of nature that comes through the rose. She has even extended herself to capturing the unique beauty that is attached to dead roses.
