Artist Kathy Varadi

Kathy Varadi is a U.S born painter who holds both a BFA and MFA. Right away, Kathy opened up about her late start to the arts, confessing to, until a few years ago, devoting her life to the sciences and athletics. She sees constant re-invention as part of her life and welcomed it when it led her to the arts, painting and to even be inspired by poetry.

“Though the narrative of this painting is left up to the interpretation of the viewer, this painting was informed by the Anthropocene, the current period of time when the escalating effects of human industry are devastating the natural world.” - Kathy Varadi

When asked about the inspiration behind her work, Varadi simply said “The calm I feel when looking at the ocean, sunsets, trees and faces.” She was also, until recently, inspired by the Anthropocene which is a proposed geological epoch dating from the commencement of significant human impact on Earth's geology and ecosystems, including, but not limited to, anthropogenic climate change.

Currently, Varadi is exploring the concept of the sublime as described by Immanuel Kant as it applies to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Stage 2, Bargaining”//Oil on Canvas

“This is the first of a series of five paintings for a project that describes the grief reaction to the COVID pandemic. The COVID 19 pandemic is devastating the lives of hundreds of thousands of people around the world though sickness and death. There is an awakening that the losses transcend the physical and are affecting the emotional and mental health of many more.” - Kathy Varadi

Varadi has worked primarily in oil paints but has not limited herself but instead explored many more. To explore more of her work :
