Artist Louis-Florent Dyèvre

Louis-Florent Dyèvre is an indépendant street photographer born in 1984 in Paris, France. He has been passionate about arts and culture since childhood and, for many years, has used photography to express his creativity and talent. Dyèvre sees photography as a powerful means of expression that gives him a chance to externalise his feelings through “painting the beauty of the world I live in, in black and white.”

Dyèvre is a self taught photographer, having been given a camera as payment for work done for his uncle at 23 years, Dyèvre immediately set out capturing his surroundings at the time, NYC.

When asked what inspires his work now, Dyèvre said, “What I like the most is walking the streets of big cities very early in the morning, when there is almost no one there. It gives you the feeling that you own the place. It also offers you the chance to capture an atmosphere and a poetry that almost nobody else knows about.”

What makes Dyèvre’s work so interesting may not be the fact that he travels the world doing his black and white photography, it could be that he does it solely on his Huawei P20 Pro phone, which is equipped with a Leica camera. He believes that it aids him in capturing a moment more discreetly and that it gives him access to moments a camera wouldn’t.

Dyèvre’s work does seem to capture almost introspective moments, that he is giving us a peak into. He may be attempting to simply capture what is around him, but he does more than that, he uses his skill and the black and white photography to expose the emotion of the photograph and his subject. When viewing his work, one can see the beautiful composition and solid technique, but another striking aspect of the work is the solitude and introspection that seems to be so powerful in the early morning time that Dyèvre prefers to shoot. A time when all of us may be rushing to get ready to go, he is slowing down to capture moments that many of us don’t have the luxury of enjoying and relishing in.
