Juror - Rachael Lynn Reynolds
Rachael Lynn Reynolds is classically trained in drawing, painting, sculpture and design but chooses to apply those principles to photography in her work. Reynolds is a current art educator and practicing professional artist that focuses her work on nature, creation and human rights.
Reynolds work is entered around the the idea of “Creation”, both natural and man-made. When elaborating on her works’ inspiration, Reynolds said, “ I always say my work is driven by water, rocks, plants, and human rights. I believe there is a huge relation between the creation of our world and our ability to create and sustain. Further than that, we owe it to the world that was created for us to respect it, appreciate it, and protect those that inhabit it.”
When explaining her work even further, Reynolds went on to say that a love for people and their cultures has driven her to use her art for cultural advocacy. Reynolds plans to dedicate her work to educating others, using photography to capture distinct moments filled with character and meaning. Her photographs provide compelling narratives that advocate for the world’s persecuted. She aims to continue the fight for human rights and for women’s rights. Rachael is a 2018 alumna of the Philos Leadership Institute where in Jordan and Israel she focused her efforts on drawing a comparison between Christians living in Israel and Christians who are displaced because of persecution. She has also traveled to Israel as a participant, fellow, and photographer with Passages Israel and enjoyed documenting the experiences of Christian college students in the Holy Land. Reynolds looks forward to continuing her dedication to using her role as an artist to advocate for human rights.
When reflecting on the beginning of her artistic journey, Reynolds admitted that while she had not discovered her love of art until college, she had been lucky enough to be raised in a creative family. Reynolds spoke of her artist mother who was an oil painter, and her creative father who worked in a family flower shop. While she had this, it wasn’t until she decided to pursue art in college that she not only was “all in” but that she had begun to correlate her overall happiness with her creations.
Reynolds’ work ranges from analog and digital photography to her experimenting with all kinds of alternative printing processes including gelatin, emulsion, transfer and double exposure. When commenting about her experimentation, Reynolds said, “I find that by changing these processes and the substrates used, I can affect the way the photographs are viewed and the emotion taken away from each piece.“
Rachael Lynn Reynolds has been invited to be a Juror in the 1st Round of Judging for the 2nd Edition of the Boynes Emerging Artist Award. Reynolds explained her excitement at being “involved in anything that helps artists become noticed or establish their careers.” According to Reynolds, “Emerging artists are some of the creators with the most fresh ideas and the most ambition. It is fun to see their spark and passion shine through in their work. The Boynes Emerging Artist Award is an excellent way to allow emerging artists to gain a platform. I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to be a small part of it.”
