Artist Kuruma Reid
4th Edition 2nd Place Winner Kuruma Reid interviews with Boynes Emerging Artist Award Founder Chantal Boynes.
Artist Jennifer Globush
“Jennifer Globush has spent most of her life amongst landscapes of industrial gold mining within the boreal forests of Canada. She has an intimate appreciation and love of the people, the abstract landscapes and unique yet everyday objects that result from living in the remote north.” - Jennifer Globush
Artist Annie Murphy-Robinson
“My work is about memories: real and not real, truths and lies- fluid and changing. Through embedding layers of charcoal, memories are redefined, refracted and reclaimed. My work is about my own experiences re-imagined through imagery of my children.” - Annie Murphy-Robinson
Artist Megan Seiter
“There’s no doubt that I’m a perfectionist, but I’ve learned that perfection is subjective. I can look at one of my drawings and find ten flaws, and someone else can look at it and think that it’s perfect.” - Megan Seiter
Artist Paul King
“Creative blocks surface sometimes… to get over it… just keep drawing and you’ll get inspired”. - Paul King
Artist Kevin Nichols
“My life has been consumed by feeling I do not belong. I am an athlete who doesn’t respond well to coaching, a student who only excels on my own time, and a loner surrounded by many acquaintances and few friends. Human connection is a struggle for me, even though people who know me argue the counterpoint. Drawing is the only through line to my life that has consistently enhanced my human connection, and that is why I create the art I create today.” - Kevin Nichols
Artist Nathan Cole
“I want to be an advocate for integrating nature into our societies, building wildlife corridors through our landscapes as hunting and migratory routes for species, and rewilding areas to increase biodiversity and ward off invasive species. I am hoping with my art I can impact our relationship with wildlife, to draw on our empathy to see ourselves in these animals, but also value them for their uniqueness and difference from ourselves. I am trying to show the viewer the beauty I see out there in the world.” -Nathan Cole
Artist Jesse Lane
“Embrace what makes you unique. Don’t be insecure about it. Artists who leave their mark do so in part because of their uniqueness. They own it. I do coloured pencil. While it would be more mainstream to use oil paint, painting is not what I do. I stick to coloured pencil because that’s what I do best. I want to challenge previous perceptions about my medium and do it in a way that adds intrigue to my work.” - Jesse Lane
Artist Melanie Martinez
“I have always been mentally stimulated by learning about art and working with my hands. Art creates an opportunity for me to not only learn from others but given me a platform to inspire and create conversations amongst others.” - Melanie Martinez
Artist Lova Wahlström
“I like to draw creatures that all look different and unique, I do not really think too much before I start draw but I can have a thought about what they should represent…” - Lova Wahlström
Artist Geraldine Simmons
“My art celebrates the beauty and connection of all living things. When I draw wildlife I see more than just an animal - I feel its soul.” - Geraldine Simmons
